Costa Rican ID Card (Cédula)

                                                         IDENTIFICATION CARD (CEDULA)

                            Keeping your ID valid and in good condition is necessary to be able to process any process.
The Cédula (identity card) is the only document accepted to any procedure of Costa Rican citizens in the consulates.

It is a face-to-face and free process. Please request your appointment at [email protected] or call +65 6467 1355

First-time request
Submit:
  1. Digital Birth Certificate with no more than three months old,  HERE
  2. Two passport size photographs 4 x 4.5cm, (width x height) with a LIGHT GRAY BACKGROUND
  3. The applicant must be accompanied by two Costa Rican witnesses who may be family or friends. Witnesses must present their original valid Cédula (identity cards).

Renewal 
Submit:
  1. Expired identity card
  2. Two passport size photographs 4 x 4.5cm (width x height) with a LIGHT GRAY BACKGROUND
  3. If your ID has expired for more than ten (10) years, you must be accompanied by two Costa Rican witnesses with their Cédulas (identity cards)
  4. In case of loss or theft, you must present a police report; if it is not in Spanish, it must be accompanied by the official translation.​
Additional:
  1. If not registered in our Consulate, please fill out the Consular Register Registration Form. HERE.

Your application will be sent by one of the means chosen by you,
       (a) regular registered mail, arrival to Costa Rica takes up to two weeks
       (b) courier, arrives in three or four days in Costa Rica

You will be informed of the cost and payment method before your appointment.. 

DURATION: Please consider that it may take up to three months to receive the new Cédula (identity card) at the Consulate where you requested it.

Only can be collected in person by the interested party.
