Request for Police Clearance Record from Costa Rica

If you live outside Costa Rica and need to get your Police Clearance Record, you need to make a specific request to the Consulate.

Requirements:

• Photocopy of the valid Costa Rican identity card on both sides or passport in case of foreigner.
• Signed and scanned letter of request sent to the Consulate, in Spanish, in which the applicant must state:
  • Full name of the person requiring the certificate.
  • Costa Rican identity card  number or passport number (only in case of foreigners who lived in Costa Rica)
  • Place and date of birth.
  • Full name of both parents.
  • Full name, identity card number and telephone number of the person in Costa Rica who is authorized to pick up the certificate of delinquency. In case of foreigners, passport number and country of issuance.
  • If the person requiring the certificate is a foreigner, he/she should indicate the period of time he/she stayed in Costa Rica, and provide copies of the passport use to enter Costa Rica during that time.

Once your letter of request with all the requirements is received, the Consulate transmits it to the Judicial Register of the Supreme Court, in San Jose. It is suggested to pick up the document 5 working days after you send your application, at the following address: San José, Barrio González Lahman, North side of the Supreme Court, Building Annex A, 1th floor. In order to legalize the document in Costa Rica, for it to be valid outside of Costa Rica, it has to be authenticated by the following offices:

• Authentication Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica. Avenue 7-9, Street 11-13, San José, Costa Rica. Tel. Tel. 2223 7555. Ext. 136,188 o 220.  Fiscal fee: 625 colones.
• Embassy of the country where it will be used. Ask in the Embassy of country where the document will be used might have other requirements, please contact the relevant party for more information..
