Police Clearance Record

Request for Police Clearance Record from Costa Rica

If you live outside of Costa Rica and need to obtain a Police Clearance Record the request must be done at the nearest Consulate.

Requirements:

Copy of your valid ID (cédula), both sides, or valid passport if you are not a Costa Rican citizen.
Letter addressed to the Consulate requesting the Police Clearence Record, the letter must includ:
- Full name of the person requesting the record
- ID number of passport number
- Date and place of birth
- Full name of both parents
- Full name, ID (cédula) number, full address and telephone number of the person in Costa Rica that will collect the record from the Registro Judicial.
- If you are not a Costa Rican citizen please indicate the period in which you lived in Costa Rica.

Once the request has been made the consulate will send the request to the Registro Judicial de la Corte Suprema de Justicia in San Jose, Costa Rica. The document will be ready 7 working day after the request has been made. The person authorised to pick up the document can do so at: San José, Barrio González Lahman, costado norte del Edificio de la Corte Suprema de Justicia, Edificio Anexo A, 1 piso. Tel. This record can only be picked up at the above address by the interested party or the authorised person.

For the legalisation of the document in Costa Rica so that it is valid outside of Costa Rica, it must be authenticated in the following offices:

Oficina de Autenticaciones de Cancillería de Costa Rica. Calle 11 av. 7 y 9 San José. Tel. 2223 7555. Ext. 136,188 o 220. Timbres: 625 colones.
Embassy of the receiving country. Please consult with the Embassy of the receiving country regarding their procedures.
